Actors headshots:

There are generally two types of actor's headshots:
Commercial & Theatrical.
Commercial headshots: tend to be warm and friendly, with a nice smile.
Theatrical headshots: tend to be more serious without a smile.

Preparing for your actors headshots:

Outfits

Keep it simple.  The focus on you. Clothes should be neat, clean, and wrinkle free.  No new clothing folds.

Look back into your memory at which necklines work best for your neck and face. (because you have looked at yourself in the mirror, or had many compliments in some outfit) Then go to the web site of your favorite stores.  Find a neck line that works on you that is current but not trendy or hot.  Bring those style tops.  Bring a few.  They don't need to be new, just current.

Solid colors that compliment your skin tone are best.  Black suites and sweaters are fine, but don't use black to slim down, as we are not trying to fool anyone.  Stay away from distracting prints, like plaid, stripes, or bold fashion.  Keep the jewelry to a minimum.

Hair

Hair should not be freshly cut. You'll need 4 or 5 days for hair to settle after a cut. I like to suggest that you come with your hair done as if you were going out for the evening with your friends. This will be the most comfortable for you.  I recommend a little extra conditioner to reduce fly aways.  Don't forget to bring your hair brush.

Makeup

You have 3 choices; a pro, a friend, or yourself.  A professional make-up artist earns their living making you look good. They can definitely improve your look. But remember, actor headshots need to be an accurate representation of you, not glamorized.  Most of my customers don't use a pro.  Friends can help apply makeup and are more cost effective than a pro.  But friends are not always available.  Whatever you decide, makeup needs to be carefully applied.  Keep it natural looking by avoiding heavy eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick, etc.  When doing it yourself, allow plenty of time. I suggest allowing twice the time it usually takes you to put on makeup.  Bring your make-up for touch-ups.  Don't worry about blemishes or mascara mishaps during our shoot; I remove those in Photoshop.

Be sure to take care of all hair removal 2 or 3 days prior to a shoot.  This time is necessary to allow for any irritation to disappear.

Hands & Nails

Although the focus will be on your face, nails should be manicured to your liking in case they end up in the picture.

Sleep is a beauty tip that really works so come well rested.

What to expect after the shoot:

You will receive an email with the link to your private gallery.  Pick your favorite shots. (2 for a 2 hour shoot and 4 for a 4 hour shoot)  I then produce a draft edit for your approval.  You make corrections as necessary.  After we agree on the final edit.  I order your two master prints from my printer service.  I then send you the link to my printing service so you can order as many as you wish.  It's best to look at the master prints prior to ordering large quantities.  Although my service color corrects every day and is one of the best in NYC, there are rare occasions where you might get less than perfect results.  So please don't put in rush orders before inspecting the master prints.  This is just common sense business practice.
